Tipping in the UK is customary but not mandatory. A tip of 10–12.5% is standard for good service at a sit-down restaurant. Always check whether a service charge has already been added to your bill — if it has, you are not expected to tip further. Many UK restaurants add a 12.5% optional service charge automatically.

In the US, tipping is an essential part of restaurant culture and a significant portion of server income. 15% is considered the minimum for adequate service, 18–20% for good service, and 25% or more for exceptional service.
