Frequently Asked Questions
What is a QR code and how does it work?
A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode that encodes data — such as a URL, text or contact details — in a grid of black and white squares. Smartphones and QR scanners decode it by photographing the pattern and translating it into the stored information.
What is error correction and which level should I choose?
Error correction allows a QR code to be read even if part of it is damaged or obscured. Level L (7%) is suitable for clean digital displays, M (15%) is the standard choice for print, Q (25%) is recommended when adding a logo over the code, and H (30%) is best for industrial or outdoor use where the code may get dirty or worn.
Can I use a custom colour instead of black and white?
Yes — use the foreground and background colour pickers to choose any colours. Make sure the contrast ratio is high enough for scanners to read reliably. Dark foreground on light background works best. Avoid red foregrounds as they can confuse some scanners.
What size should my QR code be for print?
The minimum recommended print size is 2×2 cm (about 0.8 inches square). For signage or posters viewed from a distance, scale up accordingly — a poster on a wall 3 metres away typically needs a QR code at least 10×10 cm.
Are the QR codes generated here permanent?
Yes — these are static QR codes generated entirely in your browser. The data is encoded directly into the QR pattern, so they never expire and don't require any server. If you encode a URL, the QR code will work as long as that URL remains live.
